I just wanted to highlight another great undergraduate research opportunity here in Davis. The EEB (Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity) major in the Department of Evolution and Ecology hosts an 8-unit, 2-quarter research course called EVE 180A-180B: Experimental Ecology and Evolution in the Field. Several of our students have taken this over the years, and two, Rebecca and Travis, had their group experiment published in the prestigious open-access journal PLoS 1 last week. So check out their paper: Complex Consequences of Herbivory and Interplant Cues in Three Annual Plants, with lead author Ian Pearse and other co-authors. Congrats, guys! This is a perfect example of how “undergraduate research” can (and should) be just as important as research by graduate students, postdocs, and professors.
